7.17.14 Thursday Tale Tellers Tattle – K. A. Brace

I had not purchased a book of poetry in decades, until I stumbled across this writer here on WordPress. Poetry is a fickle companion, requiring time to pause, to let the words marinate, to speak the words out loud. It cannot be rushed.  Sometimes life is just too busy for that. KB’s book To Travel Without a Map, went with me on my epiphany journey to the woods (no, I don’t get anything for promoting it, except the hope that you’ll enjoy it!) Perhaps simply the marriage of my directionless journey and the title of the book snugged together, but the book is part of my own journey now.

This poetry is different, as I suspect is the poet himself.  The consistency with which he produces quality work astounds me and his other followers. Although he has just been back to it regularly for a little over a year, the moment you step into The Mirror Obscura, you’ll be able to see the difference in this work.  Sometimes, the poetry is like a punch in the gut; others, slow drips that seep in.  KB consistently features up and coming poets, revisits important ones from literary history, and regularly posts a writing journal to share his processes and thoughts on writing and writing life.  The sign of a good artist is one that is comfortable enough in his skin to allow others to shine, understanding that talent is like love; the more there is of it in the world, the better place the world becomes.

Choosing works to feature, to tantalize your interest with, was a difficult task. A poem’s touch is often very personal. The works featured here are some of my recent favorites (and one long-standing one), but I hope that you will give his site a visit and pick out favorites of your own regularly. I know some of my readers already have.  Even if poetry isn’t your ‘thing’, the art and word pairings may give you a new perspective on both subjects. Plus, it is simply just a visually beautiful site. But…go, read for yourself.

The Year He Waited

Breathing

The Moment of Beauty

Starting Over

The Rose Trees

I have a pittance of readership I am sure, in comparison to those who have already discovered KB on their own.  But, like other things I write, if I introduce but one new person to the delight of these words, emotional photographs of the mind, then it will have been a successful post. Enjoy!
