7.18.14 Friday Frivolous Foolishness

Did you hear that sound just now?  Kind of like a deflating balloon, that weird ‘Eeeeeeiiiiiiiiii’ with a whoosh accompanying it?  I think that was my energy.  Yes, it is FRIDAY, and not one minute too soon I might add. I may have to change the title to Friday Frazzles & Frustrations if something in my work life doesn’t change, lol!

I did want to point out an obvious drawback about the occupational moniker of “Job”.  Anyone else find it ironic that there is a story of long-suffering, pain, agony and such that also has the title “Job”?  Um-hm… think about that, yeah you got it. Coincidence? I think not!  But on with the frivolity, yes?!

Years ago, my family discovered an odd animated cartoon character on the ‘net.  His name is Strongbad. The artists used to publish random pieces at odd intervals, and the kids and I would gather around to watch the latest episode, laughing so hard. They usually began with an E-mail query for Strongbad on some pop culture topic. This week, my oldest daughter sent me an E-mail with some garden art of one of the characters, Trogdor.  She still, over ten years later, follows that character 🙂  So I thought some of you might like to meet Strongbad and his trusty dragon Trogdor the Burninator today!  Caution: It’s addictive, if you’ve the right kind of weird humor levels!

This video is Trogdor’s birth via sketch

Now, if you end up spending the rest of the day in front of your computer, laughing until beverages come out of your nose, I do not wish to field any complaint E-mails from other members of your household, even cats, ‘k?

The official home of Strongbad and other characters, with lots of videos can be found here:

I am always amazed at what people do in their spare time, like this group from the UK.  Back in my misspent youth, I don’t recall anyone picking up empties and doing anything profitable with them, you know?  But these guys got on TV with it, and now have iTunes listings for sale.

I think my personal favorite is “Under the Sea” – but I used to be on the swim team, so there may be some subliminal force going on there.

Now, FFF would not be complete if I didn’t pontificate or throw in some new philosophical bit of wisdom inanity that actually made you think, right?  I wouldn’t want to let you down, so here goes…

If you’ve not met Seth Adam Smith here on WP, you might wish to give him a peek on his multiple blogs. He reached WP fame with his article “Marriage is not for You” (quite a good read too, I might add).  But this week, he outdid himself, in my opinion with “Please Stop Hating Your Body”. While the topic of this article is primarily of female focus, young men often suffer from body dysmorphia too, particularly in adolescence and early adulthood. Too tall, too short, too chubby, too skinny, yadda yadda. The reason I particularly like this article is because there are thousands of industries that make profit off of our personal dissatisfaction with damn near everything.  I’m not against profit, but I am against the constant spew of things that create discontent for people. Advertising, while great for sellers of products, has wreaked havoc on the American, and eventually the world, psyche.

So, here is my Friday Frivolous Challenge for this weekend!

Turn off or walk away from commercials.  Be happy with who you are, what you have – try contentment.

I hope you all laugh hard, end up humming the Trogdor theme song, and have a fantastic Friday!

Keep smilin’, but, really, try not to burninate any peasants while I’m not looking, all right?  😉

Unfortunately I can’t spend all day on my computer watching Trogdor, and I would love too. Instead, i have to go to work. But, I will be singing, Burninating the county side, throughout the whole day :]
